Cowork Klitmøller

Result: I developed the overall business model and funding strategy for Matchmaking Zone Klitmøller. A matchmaking zone is a coworking space aimed at creative micro-businesses and entrepreneurs. The target group consists of residents in Klitmøller and visitors or tourists in Klitmøller who, through the matchmaking zone meet, create and do business together. In the summer of 2015, Matchmaing Zone Klitmøller achieved full funding. Five million Danish kroner, and thus, the majority of the funding came from the private association, Realdania. Also, the project received funding from the Færch Foundation and the European Regional Development Fund. The final part of the financing fell into place when the local savings bank, SparThy, agreed to finance of the last two million Danish kroner.

Event-Based Innovation

Result: On behalf of the ACTIVE institute, I developed a comprehensive model for accelerating innovation processes. The model is called Event-Based Innovation. Event-based Innovation is a targeted contribution towards the efforts to create a tradition of using innovation to increase the return on the investments made by state, regions and municipalities in major sporting events. The event is considered as a base that, in addition to the awareness generated through a spectacular sporting event, also forms the focal point of value creation through focused and well-organized innovation processes. For hosts and organizers of sporting events, and for the sport itself, Event-based Innovation is an opportunity to work with a renewed approach to the value that sporting events represent. Among other things, the model has been used as the basis for a joint Nordic cooperation on innovation within the framework of the Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak EU program from 2012 to 2015.

Land of opportunities

Result: Together with representatives from the surf club NASA and the architectural firm By og Bygning, I developed three specific proposals for construction points. It included visions and goals, suggestions for the organization and program as well as a budget estimate and a presentation of the overall concept. The suggestion included an overall estimate of the need for physical facilities for windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing. It was based on an in-depth analysis with a thereof following creation of specified requirements based on fundamental characteristics of the activities including parking, handling of gear, changing rooms, and having access to a suitable place for launch/landing areas. Based on that, I developed a number of basic concepts and a model for analyzing and developing specific requirements for any given location for outdoor activities.

Cold Hawaii Masterplan

Result: From 2006 to 2007, the surf club NASA and I developed an overall concept for information and communication. The concept was to ensure a constructive and sustainable relation between a relatively large surf community in the area and the rest of the local community, including the Municipality of Thisted, local shopkeepers, other residents and tourists in the area. We developed a brand and marketing strategy. We developed a generic concept for the design of a surf spot and developed specific proposals for the design of 5 surf top-level spots on the West Coast in the Municipality of Thisted. We developed a concept for handling the large number of RVs, which were regularly present in the area. We laid the foundations for surfing as an element in one or more of the local educational offers, surfing as part of an alternative settlement strategy and last but not least surfing as the focal point for a major annual event in the Municipality of Thisted. All parts were combined into what is today known as the Cold Hawaii Masterplan.

Surfer to Surfer

Result: In cooperation with the surf club NASA, I created the campaign 'Earn and return respect - don't be a sponger'. We developed and implemented the strategy for a subsequent heated debate on the subject in various surfing communities in Northern Europe. Locally, we organized 15 teams of 2 local surfers each, who committed themselves to drive around the area and talk to as many people as possible, about the challenges and how by moving to the a camp ground they could help improve the situation. We cleared the critical areas and generally created an increased understanding of the need to take up less space and contribute more, as part of enhancing the surf culture’s possibilities on the West Coast in Cold Hawaii.

Save Middles

Result: Late summer and autumn of 2005, in cooperation with volunteers, I developed a campaign website in three different languages. The site worked, as the focal point for an online fundraising campaign. Through this, we raised DKK 130,000. The money was used to hire the engineering company NIRAS. In collaboration with NIRAS, we developed an alternative to the existing plan at the Port of Hanstholm. The alternative showed that it was indeed possible to ensure an optimal business development at the Port of Hanstholm, and at the same time preserve Middles. The process was the start of a constructive dialogue with the municipalities of Hanstholm and Thisted and the starting point for working towards creating an overall master plan for surfing in the Municipality of Thisted.
